Whether or not you are a seriously dedicated road cyclist looking for a quick espresso fix; an avid BMX’er; a big-hit enthusiast, or just out for a leisurely ride on the trail, the new "Outpost" facility is a fully equipped Reckless Bike Store . It is conveniently located at the Luxton-Sooke Road Crossing, just thirty-metres off the Galloping Goose Trail (between trail markers 18km and 19km) for your total cycling touring needs.
We offer Illy© brand espresso coffee (to fuel-up for your adventures), a fully equipped repair shop; retail goods, rental bikes, snacks and souvenir goods.
Cycling the Islands
No matter how you arrive on the South Island, the Galloping Goose Trail is comprised of more than one hundred kilometres of idyllic former railway line that begins the moment you arrive at the BC Ferries terminal at Swartz Bay (Sidney) or conveniently, the Victoria International Airport. A Reckless-Outpost sponsored bicycle assembly station will soon be located (summer 2004) in the parking area outside the Arrivals terminal for your convenience. There will be bike-box storage and a small assortment of tools made available through the airport’s information kiosk, located inside the main terminal for your re-assembly or disassembly requirements. Please feel free to ask one of the volunteers for assistance. Prior arrangements for other services can be made by calling Outpostbc.ca, or any of the Reckless Bike Stores for additional assistance.
Winding through the seaside farmlands of the Saanich Peninsula, the trail leads directly to downtown Victoria’s vibrant Inner Harbour terminus. For those wishing to visit Sooke and the West Shore, take the exit at the Switch Bridge interchange. This portion of the Goose leads you effortlessly west for over 50 km to the ghost-town settlement of Leetchtown on the Sooke River. (They say there may still be gold to be found in them thar’ hills!) Going for a swim or hike at gorgeous Thetis Lake, Matheson Lake, or the Sooke "Potholes" on the Sooke River is a natural treat for anyone on a warm summer day!
The Galloping Goose Trail consists of varying-grade multi-use walking, equestrian and cycling trails. No more than a mere 3% grade at any point on the trail, it is ideal for cyclists of all abilities. There are commuter links to virtually every community in the Capital Regional District, accessing routes to popular biking trails, spectacular trestles, pristine lakes, river valleys, and seaside touring routes.
Not to mention exciting and picturesque fully-guided tours and day trips to the beautiful Cowichan Valley, the spectacular Gulf Islands, Butchart Gardens, Brentwood-Mill Bay Ferry, Victoria Estate Winery; the Hartland Mountain Bike Park and more! Along the trail you’ll find places like Mattick’s Farm Market, My-Chosen Café, or merely stop to watch hobby flyers at the Saanich Remote Control Airfield! There is always the possibility of seeing wildlife of every type along the way and beaches are easily accessed from many points along each route. A different destination could be chosen each day!
Road-touring and race training are frequently done on the beautiful backroads of Metchosin and the Saanich Peninsula. Many international cycling teams make their training home in the West Shore. No doubt about it, there is many reasons why we are the official Cycling Capital of Canada!
We are proud to be members of Tourism Victoria, the West Shore Chamber of Commerce, and The Vancouver Island Cycle Tourism Alliance, winners of Tourism BC’s prestigious Best New Tourism Marketing Campaign For 2003!
Multi-day tours, rentals, service, reservations and advice are all available through Outpostbc.ca!
The Reckless-Outpostbc.ca is unique and easy to find; just look for the distinct signage and large chain-ring above the front door!
When you choose Outpostbc.ca, adventure tour information on recreational activities, everything from golf to mountain climbing and kayaking, is available from real professionals. Stop by and say hi when you are in the area! A friendly face and recognizable name make the only thing extreme our commitment to customer service!
